Indeed. Twitter doesn't tolerate anything that directly goes against their fanatic ideologies.
I'm all for small government, but social media should be regulated into the dirt similarly to the rail/oil monopolies during the industrial revolution.
They should do it in a way that encourages people to innovate in the realm of the internet again, because currently, the big tech companies have a complete monopoly and surreptitiously force any competitors that don't play ball out of business or into submission. They even collaborate to keep new startups from gaining traction by removing their ability to bank, find servers, etc.
People have traditionally fought for an open and free internet (SOPA/PIPA) -- but giant corporations have found a way to get what they want regardless and are using duplicitous means to achieve their goals and censor the internet so that they can better exploit people, enter into new markets, and make ever larger profits.
I'm not sure if that's the exact solution, but people really need to get their ass in gear and begin searching for one that does work.
Agreed, and I'm going to hijack your comment to propose a target of regulation: news aggregation. This is how they feed propaganda directly to the masses these days, and in the wrong elitist hands is a threat to national security. I'm talking about everything from Google News on your phone, to the twitter Trending News sidebar. There are many rules that could help, but at a minimum that kind of feature needs to be opt-in, with a disclaimer clearing stating how the news sources are curated. The algorithm used needs to be completely transparent and easy to review, and ideally have a way for the user to choose which news sources to follow.
Couldn't agree more.
Right now there's a concentration of only Left-wing propaganda sites flooding all the news aggregation feeds no matter where you go. And even if you attempt to "curate" the list they just replace whatever Lefty site you remove from the feed with a new one to replace it.
It's like removing a burnt piece of toast off the platter, but the waiter snidely replaces it with a burnt biscuit.
