Still makes me wonder wtf happened to the main army.
Politicians sold them off. Those who could escaped to Tajikistan or Uzbekistan, or moved to Panjshir (as apparently did most of the CIA-trained KPF local militia from Khost) where they proclaimed the Second National Resistance Movement in their Alpine Redoubt. And the also CIA-trained NDS special forces unit 3 fought its way from Kandahar to Kabul and is actually working with the Americans at the perimeter of the airport with its sister unit 1 from Kabul and elements of the unit 2. Pentagon spokesman asked what will happen to them after the withdrawal is completed said "they can apply for visas".
There's still resistance in the north and south of Afghanistan.
The west is ignoring this. Complete disaster.

I had some hope when I learned that it was led by the son of Ahmad Shah Masoud.
Then I read that he was 30 and had been trained at some sort of war college in the UK, and lost all hope.
