Because they fucking know masks don't work. I revisited the pro-mask "evidence" and it's the same data mining from months ago that show ~1.8% lower cases after 21 days, so even if executed perfectly masks barely work, but it's been extended out to 100 days. After 40 days, ~1.8%. After 60 days ~1.8%. After 80 days 1.8%. After 100 days 1.8%. (the figures were all 1.7 plus or minus 0.1) Would one not expect if it actually reduced cases by 2% after 20 days for it to be 4% after 40, 2% from masks and 2% from people who would have caught covid from the earlier 2% that were prevented, and on until at 100 days you'd be down almost 10%? There is no knock-on effect at all, which makes me think it's just a flat bias. The hardest thing to do in data science is not introduce bias and that assumes you are discouraged to introduce bias.
For actual science and not data science we have some virus that isn't covid that they pumped through dummy heads and it showed a reduction. Interesting but not relevant because real world viruses act differently from each other and they only tried one orientation and then stopped, I suspect because they got the answer they wanted. Also I need to find the study again because I suspect they used constant pressure rather than constant airflow because human lungs will compensate for lower airflow with greater pressure but that feedback loop would be difficult to implement with mechanical pumps and again if they got the answer they wanted why go through the trouble.
Then we have randomized clinical trials which are generally small but show a few "weak benefits" a few "strong detriment" and mostly just a big goose egg.
The thing is I was pro-mask until I started looking at pro-mask arguments and then their own evidence changed my mind when no amount of "muh virus too small" arguments even nudged me (because it's not a great argument). I checked because I noticed that masks weren't fucking working. I'm not even sure if liberal cattle actually still believe in masks or if it's just an excuse to finger wag.
I've heard the response to this one. "Masks have been proven to work time and time again, The Science is settled on masks." Don't think you will kick back questions because that will come back with, "I don't have time to deal with you stupid anti-maskers just Google it."
I've been more anti-mask than anything, because I've yet to see any real world data that support them doing anything. Just like you said at best it's some really questionable real world studies. It's my opinion that making everyone wear a mask is a mental control measure, sort of in such that you've broken their spirit and now one is more likely to be susceptible to whatever other demands because they are not enjoying their normal life.
Not to mention the broken logic of it all. You're to tell me that there is a life and death illness in the air, yet I'm supposed to be totally okay if everyone wears a piece of cloth or paper on their face? Shouldn't those that believe this is life or death just choose to avoid optional activities instead? I thought they didn't want to die?
The CDC recently (I read about it, not read the report itself) claimed masks work and cited 15 studies. Not one was a proper control group study! Zero!
Real studies, from Europe, say masks may barely work, but cause more harm than good with other medical issues being higher in the mask-using group.
Masks for children under 10? VERY BAD says the studies on those. Kids aren't big enough to breath with those things on, period. It's a sick world where people are told to put masks on their 5 year old...
