This whole thing reminds me of the Logic Plague from the Halo universe. Since the Flood could only infect organic material, AI Monitors were invulnerable. So what did the Flood do? They invented the Logic Plague, a corruption of logic that turned the Monitors on their masters.
The mass hysteria we are witnessing today looks a lot like the Logic Plague, where reason and logic are purposefully separated in order to corrupt the masses.
Another reason to never play any Halo game I haven't played already. When was this canonized? Halo 4? One of the side games or novels? What a troubling turn, as if the flood cares to extinguish sentience in particular rather than self-propagation. Did the author need to make the monitors care even though they don't have that capacity?
