Its one of my absolute favorites, and I think the controversy around how many people cited it as inspiration for serial killing (3 different guys, around 50~ victims) has kept it just under the radar enough that no one talks about it anymore.
Which is a shame, as its probably the best example of villain protagonist I've seen, as well as showing how someone can be both evil and sympathetic without diminishing either.
