The Simpsons is one of if not my all time favorite show. I'll be 41 in September, and I've been watching it since the Tracy Ullman shorts. My mother told us not to watch it, so of course that was the best endorsement possible. Anyway, I was watching some Apu-centric episodes and it seems like everytime I see them now it reminds me of that moron that made the documentary about Apu.
I seem to remember when people who wrote angry letters to TV stations or Christians who were morally outraged were mocked. One of the great early Simpsons episodes was when Marge wrote an angry letter and protested to make Itchy and Scratchy less violent. The episode had a great ending when she had to accept that she was being hypocritical.
I remember a ton of people who were from India or had parents/grandparents from there had zero problem with Apu but this loser got all the attention and glowing praise from the usual useless media. In his own documentary his parents said they had no problem. I would imagine that his parents were too busy working hard to have time to be offended. So I guess he truly became an American by being offended by a cartoon and making money to complain about it. And to think the guy calls himself a comedian. He complained that he was called Apu growing up. I was a nerdy black kid with thick glasses, and I got called Urkel. Luckily since I was taller than most kids I wasn't physically bullied, but I don't think you can make it through life without someone teasing you or saying mean things.
The whole show is pretty much stereotypes, and if you want to play the "offensive game" I'd say groundskeeper Willie or Cleetus are far more offensive. Apu is one of the smarter ones and frequently makes people look stupid.
I swear we live in a world now where people see some virtue in being offended. Out of 100 black people you could have 99 tell you they live decent lives and don't see racism as a major problem, but if 1 of them (usually someone in their teens/early 20's who grew up in a nice suburb) claims to suffer more than any slave in history, they will probably get a lot of money to appear at conferences to discuss their oppression. Same with women, hispanics, or any group. If the person who checks the right boxes is offended, here comes endless praise.
The Simpsons could've mocked this idiot, but instead they bent the knee.
Probably just a desperate stab at relevance. There’s no way they would have listened to that whiny street-shitter’s documentary back when the show was actually worth watching. I doubt most Indian people even gave a fuck, it’s the Speedy Gonzales syndrome.
With speedy Gonzalez they stopped the campaign to ban him once they realized that the vast majority of Mexicans liked him right?
Well I don’t know if the people who pushed the campaign ever really stopped, but yeah; Mexican Americans like Ricardo Montelbon hated him whereas in Mexico they loved him and the Frito Bandito.
I expected no less from Zombie Simpsons.
Thanks! I still watch out of loyalty lol. Simpsons, King of the Hill, South Park, family guy, and Futurama are shows I can watch on an eternal loop.
Yea that boggles my mind. I remember as a kid my older relatives didn’t have a chip on their shoulder. One time Candace Owens was speaking at UCLA and got booed because she told the students they aren’t oppressed and that they are some of the most privileged people on the planet. She then told the black students they talk about race more than people who actually experienced something
Listen to Jesse Lee Peterson's podcast, he says stuff like this all the time as a black man that grew up under Jim Crow. He hates the morons that get phd's.
I’ll check it out. I’ve seen him on YouTube.
Most likely some light skinned brother too. Or Meghan Markle claiming she's suffered from racism. Like you ain't even black, Jack.
Unfortunately when I think of the Simpsons, now all I can remember are Matt Groening’s crusty toes on a particular friend’s airplane…
Groenieg was on the Epstein express
Yea. I wish that wasn’t true
