I will be honest, I don't have a high opinion on people who can't be fucking bothered to pick their books, but depend on booksellers telling them what to read. I keep seeing these comments online about people going to bookstores and telling the seller to recommend books.
What sort of person needs that??
That's like... going to the grocery store and asking the cashier what you should have for dinner.
Why are people being such hype-chasing mannequins without a taste or personality?????
I also think we put too much importance into what people handling books think. Booksellers, librarians and the such. Like who is this person? Some chick who puts books on a shelf? That's a job, like any other, good for her. But like... who gives a crap about their opinions?
Don't let nobodies regulate what media you consume. It makes you an idiot.
Meanwhile, these very same people keep screeching about parents limiting what their kids can read. But they want everyone's books to be limited by some glorified cashier who calls herself Damon and has a nose ring and e beanie indoors.
Sometimes you need someone to introduce you to a subject, or to writers.
When you first go to a grocery store, you've already had years of eating to inform you what to buy, and what you can make with ingredients. If you want something different, you can look up recipes that are similar to what you already know you like, and don't have things you know you don't like. Experience allows you to refine your taste and better find new things. Without your years of eating what you were given, you're only option is to just eat whatever you find, without regard to taste or poison.
