Places like bars, pubs, and anonymous message boards are where people open up and you can actually learn the truth about society and culture, much more than in stuffy academia where people are unpersoned for having unorthodox opinions. It can be unpleasant at times. Uncontrolled spaces draw out the dregs of society, jerks, trolls, and people that will hate you for no good reason, but those people are out there anyway - they don't change their mind if we control their speech. Communicating only in censored safe spaces gives us a false impression of the world. I'd rather have the truth. If I find comradery with other like-minded people in those forums, even better.
I’m black and I’ve been called a white supremacist. Granted I have a little European ancestry though most of that is English/Irish.
Sounds good to me. There are a lot of good people on here. And I do like honest opinions. And you get plenty of that here.
