Curious about the "notoriously hard to take down" part.
What would it take to stop its spread?
My knowledge about torrents is limited but from quick google research I'd imagine it would take someone who would monitor the torrent and keep identifying each and every new PC in the swarm and its location and have all US agencies perform a crunch and do a global blitz manhunt while MSM would make up some false narrative.
Assuming it's encoded in a compressed format and at a reasonable resolution, it could be 400 days of video. That's not a deadman switch, that's a haystack that may or may not have a needle in it. I can believe that McAfee could have stumbled upon a smoking gun, but not ten thousand hours of smoking guns.
I spent over 200$ on a 256GBSSD a decade ago, and just as much on a 20GB bigfoot a decade before that. Hard drives are up a bit, but this is far from an all time high.
If it was an all time high, I'd be selling off one of my external HDDs to buy a new house. Cryptocurrency might be fucking up the market again, but it's not that bad.

At a total size of 31TB, they could probably grab the original servers before anyone's download finishes.
Shit, to even get curious about this I'd have to spend the better part of a grand on a NAS, just to have a place to put it.

Ten thousand hours of video would definitely have some filler, unless he got a hold of some existing blackmail material (a la Epstein's hoard).
Sounds like a job for weaponized autism.
31TB at a time when hard drive prices are at an all time high. :(
