Old trash would fall onto the highway. Saw a dude pissing onto the highway from the landfill because all of his fucks had gone to die already.
It was a formerly communist country (how did you guess?) that endured a brutal civil war, the main bridge had been mortared and was inaccessible for the past 15 years, I'd say 30% of the population had blown off limbs from land mines, and probably 30-40% of the population must have had AIDS. Including the children who were born with AIDS because their mother was also infected with AIDS.
I'm proud of those "water-dogs" though. They spent 48 straight hours building a water filter that turned alligator creek water into 150,000 gallons of fresh, potable, water: free for anyone who asked.
The thing is, most of these African Countries have been ruled by Socialists or Communists in one form or another.
When the Socialists started dominating Africa, they turned Africa from being poor and under-developed, to absolutely fucking ruined, and they started a continental war that killed over a million people.
Most of the worst off countries in Africa have been dominated by Socialists and Communists doing the opposite of what they claim. For this particular country, the economy had been someone liberalized, but it was still heavily class and ethnically based. As wretched as this country was in, it was an improvement from where it had been 15 years earlier.
Only certain ideologies can take a poor society and effectively rape it to death. Communism and Socialism are both of them.
Having been to a few third world countries, yeah. Really puts things into perspective.
