They don't make the connection, ever. They think the reason California sucks is because of some vague external force that they can't control, like every leftist "problem". It's never what's actually happening, it's always the invisible hand of white supremacy or systemic racism or global warming or whatever. It's always something that has no form or definition and cannot ever be defeated because it doesn't actually exist, which conveniently gives the left a perpetual reason to seek more power.
