I don't generally watch Vtubers but I do love the highlights that come from some of them.
Y'know, I'm not as annoyed by them as I expected to be.
It's still all hyper simp bait at it's core, but I guess when everyone is looking the best by default then at least success actually starts selecting for people who are entertaining over who has the better tits. That and them not necessarily being good looking in their real life means they tend to be a little more down to earth.
We'll see to what extent it sticks if it isn't just a passing fad. Vtubing doesn't select for health, so the women that get into vtubing have any combo of physical or mental problems. Anything from being bedridden to "just" social anxiety. Either way, none of those issues they generally have translates to attention in their personal life.*
Generally speaking you have women who probably don't get so much as a passing glance from people in real life and suddenly--if they're interesting--they have all sorts of people** throwing all sorts of attention they've never gotten before their way. Just as money changes people, I would not be surprised if all this attention they're now getting influences them. The fact that they're to an extent acting as a character does complicate things though.
*not to say """normal""" girls can get into vtubing but it's not the norm
**men
edit: .win doesn't allow superscript I guess :\
