Well yeah, whining for sympathy doesn't work well for adult men (unless you put on a dress first, apparently). But always taking it on the chin and doing nothing back isn't being the bigger man, it's being the bigger idiot.
Nobody believes just ignoring insults and indignities heaped upon you demonstrates strength. First you prove you can do more in return to demonstrate strength, then you make a point of not doing it every time to demonstrate magnanimity.
Way too many people have convinced themselves that being good at suffering quietly is equivalent to strength and have never actually fought back. Then when the final indignity comes for them they find out too late that just because you can take it doesn't mean they can actually dish it out very well. They're not actually strong, in fact all the damage they've passively accepted has only made them weaker and now the only lot left to them in life is to suffer.
Christians and Christian morality. They teach men to demonize strength and the (correct) celebration and public praise of strength. They teach men to put women on a pedestal. They teach meekness, pacifism, and getting on your knees to ask higher authorities to make everything good in their lives.
No personal responsibility. No individualism or looking out for yourself - instead self-sacrifice and "noble" sacrificing for others, always a long list of others that must come first.
So men don't look out for themselves or other men. We just get up on the alter to be sacrificed for womens' retirement plans.
