This is the absolute scariest thing.

The amount of indoctrination in people is sickening. People in my loose circle who don't understand the importance of freedom and don't understand that you can't make exceptions to that for "safety" or "security" -- an inherently free society is a little less safe and secure -- that's the price of freedom.

We're headed down a dark path. I don't say that as a doomer, I say that because I really thought -- outside of all the Trump Derangement Syndrome -- that we were all Americans and valued the foundations of our Republic.

"We" don't, and half the country (or at least a vocal minority + the federal government) is ready to tear it all down.

If its any solace, a huge chunk of the population is against this. Trump breaking vote records for a sitting president speaks to that. Its just as you said, the vocal minority that the government amplifies to make them seem more numerous than they are.

It's not even the price of freedom. Freedom just embraces the reality that life is inherently dangerous. Authoritarianism doesn't really do anything to increase safety, it just pretends like it does while also introducing the new risk of the government doing whatever the fuck it wants with you.
