I wasn't in the "something seems off" camp, but now that they're trying to claim that a couple extra tugboats and excavators digging on the shore has resolved what they had claimed might be a several-week effort, "something seems off".
If you ever have to give someone a time frame resolving a clusterfuck, the smartest thing to do is to give them your estimate of the worst case scenario.
Remember: If it takes you longer than you said it would, you're shit at your job, but if you get it done in a fraction of the time you claimed, you're a hero and obviously they don't pay you enough.
Scotty from Star Trek would be proud.
It's pretty much the way you have to do it, considering the shit way humans are, and if you don't do it that way, you're not smart enough to deserve a human job that pays money. Always pad your time estimates.
