If it's a legit miscarriage, I wouldn't really have a problem applying whatever sort of bereavement policy to that that applies to others. Presuming that's a reasonable policy of a couple days or whatever. Not at the government level but the business level. The government doesn't need to mandate free time off for every damn thing.
If it's miscarriage due to an abortion, they should have to work 2x the hours for the next week and have to donate all that pay to anti-abortion groups. Starting immediately after they finish their abortion. Because, fuck them I no longer give a shit.
Yeah, that stuff can be pretty emotionally, and even physically, devastating. I'd give any of my people some time off for it. I think any decent job would have in the first place without force.
You can already get paied leave for physical or psychological illness. If you get depression from going through a miscariage, that's covered.
A miscariage itself is not a medical or psychological disability.
This is just another public fund drain to privilege women further.
That's fine then. I'm not a Kiwi so I have no idea how their public funds work. Where I am, paid leave for this type stuff would be covered by employers at their option. Many/most bigger employers and even small business that work in professional space offer all sorts of paid leave options in different ways. If you work at McDonalds part time, then well no. Nor do you get vacation or any other paid time off, because it's part time job.
