Does such a massive key count as a "regular object" in the UK?
I know they're a bit more fond of lever locks in the UK but even that Tiktok guy had to switch from a regular key to that giant ass key to make it work.
Probably best to never admit to carrying anything as a weapon even for self defense. You just happened to grab that pointy everyday item by accident and blindly started swinging.
There is those "tire pressure checker" metal bats, which are clearly self-defense tools, but heavily branded all over them that they're used to tap tires to hear a "thump" to know if you've lost significant tire pressure or not.
There's entire industries built around "never admit to carrying a weapon even for self-defense". Which says that the law around it simply isn't working as it should: It is not effective, AND it is being actively circumvented.
Around here (Germany) the only house keys you'll find are small ones like in the top left photo. You might find those bigger ones on low security doors inside houses (bathroom or kitchen door) but nobody I've ever met carries them around. AFAIK it's similar in the US.
If you're going to carry something for defense might as well go for something more effective yet still legal even in restrictive jurisdictions. I'd assume a steel ballpoint pen could qualify. The whole article strikes me as more of a "you go girl" virtue signal than effective advice.
All self-defense is "you go girl". Or almost all, anyways.
You are not a ninja. You are not trained as a police officer, military enforcer, or bodyguard. You will freeze up when it comes to lethal fight-or-flight.
The self-defense should be "here's the money, don't hurt me, if you don't need the ID could I keep my driver license? The DMV sucks.", and then reporting it to the cops while reciting to yourself as much physical description as you can of your assailant... Or shoot them until the threat is removed before they get into melee range. Immediate divorced lethal force, or submission. Your ability to judo throw someone going along with the movements isn't going to impress a nutcase with tweaker strength. Your ability to STAB someone with tweaker strength isn't going to impress them, they probably won't even feel it.
Problem with that is, a growing class of criminals don't want your money. They want to beat you up if you're male or rape you if you're female.
Good luck reporting anything to the cops. Best case it'll just be another file that gets ignored due to being understaffed and the justice system being overloaded with cases. Worst case it actively gets ignore because the perp has a politically inconvenient skin color.

Pretty sure if anything can be used as a weapon it's illegal in the UKuck.

When I lived there, I had some huge keys. You can't put them in your pocket or you'll stab yourself with them as you walk.

Can't you wear a KPD pin and carry whatever you feel like.
You might get arrested with a weapon but odds are you'll get off easy in any court.
