I loved the Big Bang Theory but sometimes I feel like it was a double edged sword because that was when, at least in my memory, “nerd stuff” started being cool and mainstream. I always laugh at how people proudly call themselves nerds since it’s trendy or as a lifelong comic book reader someone who watches some MCU movies and thinks they are an expert in comic books.
I honestly miss the days when reading comic books, sci fi, or being a fan of Star Wars/Star Trek was something you got made fun of for.
Anyone think these hobbies will ever be niche again?
Edit: the more I think about the show, I’m reminded of someone who said that Big Bang Theory was a minstrel show for nerd culture.
I got the shit kicked out of me repeatedly by farm kid footballers.
Big Bang Theory played for laughs to that crowd.
Fuck them.
You know the more I think about it as time has passed that show didn’t do us any favors
It was blackface for nerds.
But I get you. Revisiting some of my old favorites has made me realize that all of this insanity has been going on a lot longer than I thought, and a part of me wishes I could return to ignorance. I can't even watch Star Trek TNG anymore because Patrick Stewart is just a total fucking retard IRL. I loved that show.
Some of those episodes in retrospect have aged really poorly.
Babylon 5 otoh has become prophetic.
I’m actually watching Babylon 5 for the first time. Only in the first season but enjoying it. TNG was good Trek. My favorite is the original but I liked all shows till current
