What The Ghost Of Christmas Present said with derision and mockery, I instead say with saddened curiosity: Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?
Canada just recently had a big project for homeless, 110 million dollars, to buy them homes. Not workhouses. They still won't be productive. No guiding care, no instruction, no job path. Just homes. Shelter is important, of course, especially in Canadian winters (as Montreal knows, since it was kicking homeless out of shelters due to COVID restrictions and watching them die on the street of cold, better dead than a cough, I guess), but it ultimately wouldn't "save" anyone. 110 million in jobs paying 10k/year would actually get people on their feet, but workhouses have such negative views that we can't just bring on homeless and give them work.
Nope, no workhouses. No make-work projects .. and even if they did come up with some, the yobbos in government would come up with the bright idea "hey, we need some immigrants in on this ..."
Didn't Elon Musk get in trouble for wanting to hire locals instead of migrant labor?
