The only mistake he made was coming armed. California passed a law a while back that shoplifting up to a certain amount is a misdemeanor, so he could have just walked out of there with no repercussions. Not that I'm betting he'll get anything other than a slap on the wrist.

Go back to the kitchen and grab a finished plate waiting to be picked up by a server. At a busy restaurant you won't have to wait long for one of those to appear.
