I think its because they think it will be some sort of easy fight that they will instantly crush the right if they rose up.
I think they greatly underestimate the rights power and overestimate their own.
I also think they are going overboard because, to put it simply, they have seen themselves as gods who are untouchable, and then here comes some goofy right wingers who scratch them, reminding them of their own mortality and its causing them to fly into a rage to regain their sense of power.
Its also why I think they are pushing so hard on a timeline basis. When you look at all of the world elites pushing this sort of stuff, they are all old bats probably nearing the end of their lives. And they want more and more power because "I am a GOD! I cant be dying!"
You bring up a really good point that I hadn't thought about. All the months of riots and violence by the left didn't touch the people in the establishment, particularly the most powerful and longest reigning people in Congress. Big business can replace broken windows and stolen products or just move, but the real victims were always the small business owner and the innocents caught up in it.
Now the left did commit a lot of vandalism and protests outside the homes of these guys, and in some cases did physically assault some low level politicians, but again, nobody in 'The Cathedral.' Plus they always had the protection of private security, or police in their pocket. It wasn't until the right made them cower in their seats that they felt something they, perhaps, hadn't felt before, actual fear, actual danger. These are the same people who send you and your children off to war. Memento mori indeed.
It hit me, of all reasons, from watching 300 again (because some time away from all this is absolutely helpful, the stupider the better). And it got to the scene where Xerxes offers Leonidas unlimited power if only he kneeled. I heard much of the modern Left (especially the high elite) in what Xerxes was saying and how they were acting. And remember, at the end of the movie when Leonidas knicks him with a javelin and causes him to bleed, he starts losing his shit and starts to leave from his own delusions about godhood.
It also doesn’t help that they paint us all as backwards hill billies or the most out their people from the 6th. If you think your opponent can’t read above a 2nd grade level it’s really difficult to ever see them possibly out maneuvering you. And the thought of a repeat of 2016 terrifies them because it proved that their belief system is completely wrong.
Even some people "on our side" do it. Its always annoyed me when Tim Pool goes on one of his "5-Gen Warfare" spergs and and says the right would never win because they would all just be banned from the internet and unable to communicate and then the media would say they are all terrorist and so they lose before it even starts.
Nevermind that this assumes the comm situation is entirely static (I can think of plenty of ways it stops, but usually on a "If we cant talk, no one talks" basis). It also assumes that the Right has NO way to communicate with each other beyond the internet.
Now I dont know if Tim has just never met an honest to god militia type (the sort who would actually be doing the heavy lifting in the possible throwdown), but from what I remember, those types barely trust PHONES, never mind the web. Hell, our comms can even be mobile, considering there is a guy near where I live who has an entire radio array built in the bed of his truck.
I think Tim pool has sat on a fence post so long he is now just a wind vane changing direction whenever the wind changes direction. Also he takes a ton of cues from the msm. Say the most extreme thing for a headline and get clicks.
Oh, I have very much moved into the "Tim Pool is a Dim Fool" school over the last few weeks. I was always able to kind of ignore his "I am the smart" attitude, but there were 2 breaking point for me.
First was how he spent the whole summer saying Republicans and Trump supporter were cowards not doing enough, only to then clutch his pearls every time they did something and say that they should only stay in their own area so Antifa doesnt show up. That this was also accompanied by him trying to talk up Antifa and make them out to just be populist lefties did not help.
The second was when he was telling people to stand up for themselves in their jobs, even if they get fired. When people pointed out that they have families to support and cant do that, he insinuated that that is cowardly and they should just leave their job, like he did (ignoring he is alone with no family). Meanwhile, he has rolled over for Youtube at every chance so he can keep making money. It finally hit me when he was talking about money and said something was "only" $1 Million. I dont know about him, but "only" $1 Million leaves me set for life.

Then the events in DC went down, and it clicked.

TLDR: Tim Pool is a Dim Fool, and I get it now.
