So I saw that a show I loved as a kid (Night Court) will be getting a sequel. It will center around the daughter of the Judge from the original. I avoid reboots/sequels in the current year like the plague but I do notice that whenever they do a sequel nobody seems to have sons.

I cannot envision any way they can pull the sort of jokes John Larroquette pulled on that show today.
It would be like asking Berkeley Breathed to double down on Charlie Hebdo. (Which he'd probably do, come to think of it.)
Well Larroquette will be in the show but yea they won’t allow those jokes. I’m sure he will be upstaged by a stunning and brave woman.
Well, I don't know if you remember how they handled Fielding's character - it was pretty subtle, I guess, especially for the modern day where beating people over the head with a sledgehammer is de rigeur.
Remember, it turned out that he was from a poor hillbilly family from Louisiana, and he played the accordion. That was his big come-uppance in the original show (especially when we got to see Brent Spiner as his dad.)
I can only imagine what they'd do this time around. His parents would be confederate-flag wavers from alabama or some shit.
Yeah, us older generations, our wanna be middle class parents would send girls to piano lessons, and boys for accordion lessons. I don't know why. But playing the accordion is really geeky, and a big embarrassment for a lot of guys (anyway, that's why Weird Al, and why women in older media just seem to sort of know how to play the piano out of nowhere.)
