This is the right move. TD handled it about as well possible. As one of the folks that regularly messaged and reported posts to the mods to move over here in the first place, I'd like to see others move away from that cesspool too and join us.

Yes, just what we need. Another hollywood person grandstanding and virtue signaling about shit she knows nothing about.

In that area, almost assuredly

The other poster is kind of wrong as far as suburbs. Michigan is split more Detroit, and a few of its suburbs, and downtown lansing/grand rapids, are D. Where as almost all the rest of the state is R (lansing/GR suburbs included). Its why we generally sit purple more than blue/red.

The issue is, she was in the car, safe from the altercation. She got out, and escalated and made the situation open to bodily harm. I just dont think that is going to fly from my knowledge of michigan gun law, caveat, IANAL. Just another CCW holder.

Look, Im pro 2A as much as anyone. I have my CCW here in MI as well as apparently this couple does. This is not the proper use of force here.

The gun should be drawn only when/if you actually need to fire it. And the lady smacking/punching her car is not enough of a threat to warrant deadly force. A good summary I took from elsewhere:

Regarding deadly force, this section establishes that a person is legally justified in using deadly force to protect themselves or another person, with no duty to retreat, provided:

They are not engaged in a crime

They are in a place they have a right to be (in other words, they are not trespassing)

They honestly and reasonably believe that deadly force is necessary

They are preventing imminent death, great bodily harm, or sexual assault to self or others

While this lady may have been in the right at every point up until then, her firearm should not have been drawn unless she feared bullet point 5, and that is inconceivable here.

As a CCW permit holder, this is a no-no.

Felony assault is probably excessive, but this could be brandishing in michigan, which is a misdemeanor.

He would be so disgusted in what Reddit has become, and the internet in general. Its shameful. Its so disheartening to me to see what the internet has become.
