I've seen this appear on steam early this year so I've played Gothic 1 and 2 and recently started playing this mod. Is a full 60 hours game you get for free. You are no longer playing as the hero from 1 and 2 but it is the same world and the same kingdom. It is an entire new story, new location and new guilds to join. The mod improves a lot of aspects of the original, adds crafting for bows, scroll writing, cooking, adds new weapon types, changes how teleportation works, adds details in houses and improves point allocation. In gothic 2 you had to wait until your main stat was at least 90 to start using permanent stat increase consumables but now it tracks your base stat separately - this is a huge improvement.
There are a lot of easter eggs related to Gothic 2, you can tell that the guys that made it loved that game. The main character is named Marvin, best name they could have picked.
Now for the story, I'm not much in to it but it looks great. The main character is a refugee from war, you and your brother left your home after your dad dies of an addiction and you do not want to join the war effort against the orcs as it looks like a lost cause. You reach Archolos, an island that is already sick of refugees. The main character has to work to win the trust of the local village where you start in and convince the other refugees to work as well. I was shocked that a game from 2021 would imply that a group of refugees that is large relative to the village population is not cheered and celebrated and actually needs to integrate to earn the trust of the locals.
The game also has a brotherly bond and reconnecting with their uncle, again something that is not common in modern games.
Playing the game it helped realize how much clown world changed peoples perception, things like the refugees having to earn trust or even small things like asking someone that is clearly a foreigner if he is local are acceptable. I hate that things that are completely normal and not bad are now considered an offense worthy of getting you fired. I would like to say the game is based but the game is just not clown world.
Cons for the game:
-
there is no hd graphic mod for it yet. Gothic 2 has one but most like this mod will not get one
-
buggy loading screens - who ever made the game added custom and changing loading screens that bug out for me. The loading screens are very cool when they work.

Voice acting is in Polish with english subtitles. It annoyed me at first but now I like it a lot. I assume the developers are Polish.
The game is great, a lot of effort was put in to making it and you can tell they loved the original game. It improves on the main game while maintaining the same feeling.
I work in tech, mostly support and admin stuff and a bit of scripting. My team is seriously overworked and my team lead has been asking for a new hire for more then a year. We finally got a new guy, he is Mexican. That in itself is not important but I was spending time trying to explain to him what we are doing on this project and the guy does not even know how to ssh to a host. When I got hired I had to pass tests on networking, bash scripting and linux, the tests I took are not enough for what we do and should have covered a lot more but this guy knows less then a high school student that likes computers.
I'm so done with affirmative action bullshit. I have nothing against the guy and wish him all the best but this is demoralizing. We've been so freaking overworked for so long, fuck this crap.
