What I'm getting at is the unintended consequences of listening to shitty fuddlore. Forget how much of a bad idea warning shots are from a legal standpoint (a prosecutor will hammer on the point that you weren't in "imminent bodily harm" if you had time to fire off a warning), what makes you think a warning shot will scare away a mob of angry felons with nothing to lose and looking for an excuse to hurt you? The Kenosha Kid fired real shots into real bodies, and that didn't stop the goblins from chasing him three blocks and trying to curb stomp him.
You told the good ending to your rooftop scenario, here's the bad ending:
You get on the roof.
You fire a warning shot.
The mob gets angrier.
"The Nazi's shooting at us!"
One of them aims his illegally-possessed Glock at the open target on the roof.
You feel a sharp pain in your right lung.
You fall off the roof.
You limp your way to your front door.
The door is locked and you didn't bring your keys.
The mob surrounds you. Then...
