They thrive on the attention.
People like him — as well as all the other rich black athletes in popular sports and entertainment — simply want the praise and attention that's concomitant to supporting the black community, without actually supporting the black community.
They're more than aware that any white fans in their respective audiences are unable to do anything other than tune out. Even then, much like those who speak out against this racist tribalism, they'll still label those who do as racist as well.
For them it's a win/win kafkatrap.
If you speak out, then they can claim, "See? This is the kind of anti-black talk we deal with all the time! They just feel their power is threatened!"
If you tune out, they can claim, "See? They don't want to face the reality of their racism — why else wouldn't they support black lives?"
Meanwhile, they're some of the richest and most privileged people to ever exist; yet, they refuse to take their money and influence into their local impoverished black communities in order to truly try to make any sort of meaningful difference. The places where crime is astronomically high and where they could truly help are left wanting — all while they pat themselves on the back for a job well done.
They're content with just pretending because it exclusively benefits them without having to do any actual work to make progress.
