Because it isn't a "left-right" thing, at least, not any more. That's a relic of Cold War thinking. The lines have shifted, so that old-school "liberals" are now lumped in with the hard right over things that used to be considered very leftist (including colour-blindness, and actual animal welfare/rights issues, particularly where they clash with the WANTS of non-white human cultures.)
The Church and Hollywood aren't on different sides, they're competing for the same power slot, and the same hearts and minds, is all. Otherwise, Hollywood IS the new Church.
