... Did Facebook just open themselves up to a fairly substantial lawsuit? Not a lawyer, obviously, but as far as I understand US law around this sort of thing they're asserting as falsehood as fact about a person who but for the thing they're lying about is not a public figure.

I'm fairly sure any FB lawyer worth his salt would be hammering the "delete" button by now...

I think the game plan is to make the big flashy authoritarian move, take it back and finally pretend like they never did in order to impose a chilling effect.

No, because the case will "coincidentally" end up with a leftist owned judge. Our justice system had been infiltrated too.
