This is fairly consistent within their ideological framework. When it's one of their guys in the positions of power any defiance or criticism is seen as unpatriotic, uncouth, crazy, etc. When one of their enemies is in a position of power then any defiance or criticism is seen as a patriotic duty, necessary, etc. The standard they hold to is "our allies and members of our movement are good and the other guys are bad - act accordingly."
There are comments with dozens of upvotes saying to keep sports and politics separate topics. Nowadays, there are comments with thousands of upvotes saying we should cancel games and politicize sports because “sports is not important” (asinine thinking), and comments calling for escapism have -50 downvotes. Several comments also say that players should just respect the office regardless of their beliefs, now social media including Reddit encourages players to attack Mr. Orange Man.
r/hockey has been eating up the narrative for years that the sport has been behind the MLB, NFL, NBA due to too many straight white men in the sport and a conservative political stance amongst the players. Same with NASCAR. They've gone hard left to virtue signal that "hey, we're not white racists, this is how far we're willing to go to prove it".

Are there very few?
Yeah now they would all be jerking it to the idea of someone refusing to go to the White House to have a photo taken with Trump, and anyone on the team who did would be canceled and exorcised for being in close proximity to the Orange Demon himself.
