If you were to pinpoint a time when would you say woke nonsense/sjw garbage creeped into gaming? I remember I used to love gaming magazines until they couldn’t shut up about diversity or women in gaming or articles saying how evil gamers were. My personal favorite are female gamers who talk about verbal abuse they get when they play online. At first I was sympathetic until I realized that verbal abuse is pretty common online.
Women can be great developers or programmers but hiring a woman for gorge sake of it is dumb. Same with men. And people get furious if you say you just want to play a game.
Main games I play now are Skyrim, Fable Deluxe, and the Sims. I’m really excited about Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield but I hope Bethesda doesn’t go crazy. Also hope next Fable game is good. Sorry for rant.
The shitstorm was always brewing in the background but the "positive" culture of the 90s kept it at bay.
I would say 2010 was the turning point but maybe that was just when I first noticed what was going on. By that point Twitter had around 5 years to metastasize into the serious cultural rot that it continues to be.
2010 was also when Dickwolves happened which really showed the reach and power of the mob. Anita weaseled her way into the spotlight a few years later but she was just opportunistically taking advantage of what was already a trend.
That said there were some good games released after that, possibly because their development cycle started before everything went bad.
Shadow of Mordor is one I thoroughly enjoyed, along with Mad Max which was a pretty similar game.
Doom 2016 and supposedly Eternal (haven't played) were good. Prey 2017 was basically System Shock 3 and other than a sidequest that talked about a dyke relationship there wasn't any wokeness.
Imo the last GREAT game ever made was S.T.A.L.K.E.R (1). And with the way things are going I don't see it being topped anytime soon.
