The left-right dichotomy falls apart in as soon as you start pushing it to extremes - hence horseshoe theory.

It would be more accurate to say that all authoritarian systems are collectivist by default.

But for the sake of simplicity, and through the lens of current left/right politics in the west, he is more right in this assessment than he is wrong.
