How very "1984". How very Soviet. How very ideologically totalitarian.

So rebellious kids skip these classes en masse .... next up, special re-education camps for them. Of course, they'll be presented like traditional wilderness camps/scouts/ROTC/Outward Bound ...

It's not quite like that. What happened is that anyone attending a college in the California State University system must take a 3 unit class in race-related grievance studies to graduate. No jail time or fines per se. The punishment here is having to waste time, money, and the opportunity to take a class on something that you enjoy and/or is actually useful.

So, it's more like "be brainwashed, or never work at any kind of job that requires post-secondary education. Oh, and we now require even McDonald's janitors to have to get tickets that will also include these courses." So they go on welfare, get sent to the same courses. They commit a crime, they have to take the same courses in jail.

It kind of works out to the same thing in the long run.
