I challenge this notion that the leftists are winning.
I'd argue that the leftists are losing popular support at the moment, and that the establishment has been Fabian Socialists since the 1930's. They've actually been slowly loosing power over the past 80 years.
The problem that people don't quite grasp is that the progressives are not a revolution. They are pushing at an open door. The revolutionaries are effectively the right, and most normies don't even realize that they've accidentally wandered into a Velvet Revolution
