One big advantage Uzaki had was they already failed to cancel her once.
The blood drive thing last year was a small event they tried to attack and ruin over her for the same reasons. It failed so spectacularly that the blood drive saw huge participation AND they got huge exposure for the manga that exploded its popularity. I'd almost directly credit it with getting the anime greenlight.
So now they went after a shockingly popular character they had already failed to take down once, which meant the same people were already defended against their bullshit.
It doesn't help that "smug smol kouhai bullys you and becomes tsundere over time" is gonna be the '20s version of "trap" or "yandere." Its a character archetype that is just blowing up everywhere, and Uzaki/Nagatoro getting anime will make that massive. They could not stop people's boners.
I enjoy it myself too, and so far it never goes beyond affectionate bullying which is the line I think it should stay.
There is a reason nobody but extreme masochist fetishists recommend the Pre-Serialization Nagatoro comic, because its literal femdom and is just more sad than funny.
That's some good shit too, but its far more rare. Its why I enjoyed Neuro: Supernatural Detective back in the day, and recently have been enjoying In/Spectre. Where the guy gives zero shit and regularly bullies the female lead for giggles.
Shit, I recently enjoyed Redo of Healer and its nothing but hard domination of women so far. Look forward to that anime next year. Its got all the "angsty white male rage" of Shield Hero without any redeeming qualities and plenty of actual violent rape. So it'll blow up Twitter again.

That's a great archetype, though. I just hope it doesn't turn into "haha cute girls are now dominant!" archetype.

I mean, I'm not saying it's sad, I'm just saying I'm not into it. I prefer girls getting dominated.
