That’s always how it work. Take 2 steps, get backlash, then take 1 step back. This way You still get to walk censorship forward while “listening” to the people.
The animemes sub is doing that right now. Banning the word 'trap', but admitting they "messed up" by not "running the changes by the community first". Then they said they're not going to roll back the ban anyway, so the end result is the same thing.
It never is, but its extremely funny for at least KIA who joked and talked about it for years.
Animemes is unsurprising because for ever 3 weebs that are bros, there is one whiny broken one. In my day, there were PUAs and various tryhards, now they are just trannies.
Edit: For extreme lulz, one of the KIA mods themselves (Auron) is out there trying to act like a revolutionary and attacking animemes for this action. Despite regularly defending when KIA did it.
I think people would do well to learn about it and techniques like it (like the foot-in-the-door technique) because they're pretty common ways of manipulating people. It's often used in in-app purchase flows, for example, where they show an expensive option first (like $100 worth of in-game currency) and then an option that seems much more reasonable by comparison (like $20).

Did the KIA mods start running Animemes? This sounds familiar!
I made the exact same comparison. Going from the replies mods becoming power-hungry cunts isn't exactly an uncommon thing.

It's sometimes known as the door-in-the-face technique.
