This is a bit depressing how most franchises turn against the fans. The same fans that kept the franchises profitable and with great free PR. Now they will throw them under the bus with the first chance they get.
Eh, they aren't doing that, they claim to be fans and are backpedaling hard in the interview. The title is a bit clickbait, but the space.com interviewer was the one phrasing it "toxic". They aren't doing any favors to the IP, but we don't have to buy their garbage either.
The worst part is that if Picard was released under it's own universe and cast of characters, it's might actually be a fair to ok watch.
Sure, it has some internal inconsistencies but most stuff does these days. The major lore issues are the biggest paradoxes and failings and they would have been completely eliminated by just not pretending it's Star Trek.
But the story itself definitely isn't good, so the only way to get some diversity hire script made is to attach it parasitically to something people already like.
