On reflection I have less issue with the schools staying closed. ICE sent out that letter stating that people on student visa would have to return home if their school was doing online-only instruction, college students faced with the prospect of paying full tuition for online-only schooling are for the first time asking themselves just what it is they're paying for, and parents are getting more involved in their children's schooling if not outright home-schooling them.
It might actually be better off for society to literally pay the public schools to do nothing so we can break the stranglehold academia has on us.
