I disagree. Putting massive tariffs on Canada is not in the interests of Canadians. Nor is wanting to put economic pressure to make them the 51st state. It's natural that they would not like that and resent Trump for it.
I don't begrudge Trump for advocating for America's interests, but that also mean you cannot begrudge Canadians for advocating for Canada's interests.
There's a difference between advocating for your interests and being a dumbass. Canadians often fall into the latter camp.
It would be smarter to sit down and talk it out with Trump. I get you have to put up some fight, optically if nothing else, as you can't just cave and do what some other country wants, even if it benefits you, as it just makes you look weaker in the long run. But Canadians take it to a ridiculous degree.

No disagreement there.

Perhaps, perhaps not. I think you are correct. And I think Canadians generally deserve to be screwed. But I find it understandable that they would be angry. And as you shrewdly recognized, someone like Poilevere must appear as a stand-up person who can stand up to Trump, or they're going to paint him as a pushover who will sell out Canadian interests because of his sympathy for Trump - sort of like a reverse Russiagate, as ridiculous.
But Canadians take it to a ridiculous degree.
Small dog syndrome. The British are the same: always warmongering. A British urinalists recently had a talk in the Youtube channel for The Times, a major 'center-right' newspaper, in which he said that war with Russia is IMMINENT.
A good strategic choice.
Sadly correct, which is a massive condemnation on Canadians.
