the Canadian Armed Forces had 64,461 regular force members and about 23,177 reservists. It hopes to reach targets for the regular force (71,500) and the reserves (30,000) by 2032 to erase the current shortfall of about 13,862 people.
Holy fucking shit. Every single thing about this article is deeply fucking embarrassing.
Trump should troll the shit out of them and say he greatly admires them for paying attention to the very, very, very fine details of a mere 13k troops.
Also, you'd think a simple web search of 'size of US armed forces' would have all the Canadians singing a much different tune. "You know what? Trump was elected. Popular vote, too. He's the voice of the American people, and I look forward to sitting down with him. He's even super attractive. Just an inspiration. Great man."
I'm sad to report that most Canadians have either no sense of scale, the self assurance of an anime nerd who sure he's watched enough naruto to kick ass or both.
Our soldiers know it. We know we can kick US butt on a 4:1 ratio, we're that good and the typical US trooper is that bad. However? We know we're outnumbered more than 10:1 so...
There's US troops (units) that are truly 'world class' but they're few & far between. Most fall into the readiness & capacity of "conscripts" which are fine until the shooting starts...
The US does have a vast cadre of "battle tested" troops and reserves in spite of all that. Those troops, even if at conscript levels are potentially much more dangerous than untested "elites", eh?
Canada's troops are all battle tested. So are our reserves.
In every exercise, joint operation or joint training since 1980? Canada has kicked the butt of every other army they've engaged with. Often on the first day of a 3-day exercise. (They set it up again and ask the Canadians to tone it down, eh? For the last 2 days) USA, UK, France, Germany, Korea? all of them.
We have had troops in harms way for decades, from Yugoslavia to Afghanistan. We cycle the small number of soldiers we have in and out, they're all tested.
After all that is said? We wouldn't stand a chance against a serious US invasion. However keep in mind: The US Army Could Not Defeat Afghanistan In 20 Years ok? They couldn't even occupy the entire nation.
