It's not the bad sequels made with simple incompetence that retroactively ruined the previous works, it's the revelation of how much the actors hate us that made the original series cringe to watch, especially if the sequels have people from the older series involved. The original trilogy is ruined because Mark hamil was in it. Star trek tng is ruined because Patrick Stewart was in it. Joker would have been ruined if Joaquin Phoenix was mouthing off tds all the time. The actors and directors are part of the brands' image even when they are off the stage. Games are less susceptible to this because they are made by coders nobody knew, who are expected to leave the company after 10 to 15 years, people who made the original games usually have nothing to do with the sequels, and until recently they don't mouth off about their customers
