Reminds me of a story about a local gay/lesbian activist couple.
They hit it off and became friends, so they moved in together to save rent. One night they got drunk, she climbed into bed with him, and they had sex, which became a regular occurrence. Then she needed health insurance, so he married her. Finally she wanted a baby so he became her "sperm donor."
Throughout it all they both insisted they were 100% homosexual. Everything they did was just friendly and consequences of ebil capitalism and heteronormativity.
Something that is openly discussed in the gay community but never discussed publicly is the huge amount of turnover. Its difficult enough to make people gay, even harder to keep them gay. 90% of gay men and 99% of lesbians quit within 10 years. Heterosexuality is easy, being gay requires you to live in a constant state of rejecting nature. You can only do that for so long before you go insane.
I once had a lesbian coworker who had been previously married, she hoped her daughter never went lesbian. I asked why and she said "it's impossible to find anyone." And I lived in one of the gayest cities in America, during the extremely pro-LGBT 2000s.
