Every season of the Road to the Title show (it's like The Ultimate Fighter but for Power Slap) has at least one guy who is genuinely living out of his car, 3-4 guys with face tattoos, and 95% of the fighter intros start with "so I'm trying to see more of my kids after the divorce" or "I've been out of rehab for 3 months this time".
It's a effectively a rags to riches story of a sort. When people are that fucked up and accomplish shit, it gives everybody a sense that, "No, actually, I think I can do this."
