This is why you should worry about Pam Bondi as AG.

Gaetz supposedly isn't walking off into the sunset, according to a recent interview with Charlie Kirk.
Other people are throwing darts for Gaetz's role for this incoming administration. The linked article mentions a special council for investigation(s).
Along with some early comments in that Kirk interview clip, this long and meandering twitter thread partly detailing the underage sex scandal suggests his career as a politician is over.
It probably won't be a "higher purpose," as some would wish, but Gaetz can still do some good somewhere.
The sole source of the allegation is serial criminal liar.
The story is that while running for office Gaetz met this scammer who right away got him to have sex with a 17-year old with a fake ID. Then four years later when scammer tried to extort Gaetz the first thing he did was go on air and name the scammer and tell everything he knew about it. The scammer was then convicted for a separate case where he made fake sex abuse allegations against a rival, and the Gaetz allegations were investigated and the case dropped.
After all that Gaetz was re-elected to the House.
There's near-zero chance he slept with this girl or that it would end his political career. Maybe he was always red meat or resigned because he really thought he would be AG, but something else is afoot.
I understand that the allegation is BS, but I believe the idea is that RINOs could use the prospect of an investigation against him to keep him 'in line.' If there is someone waiting in the wings behind Gaetz (which I think he suggested in the Kirk interview clip), without this political handicap, it might serve 'us' more if he stepped down.
