Priest looks nasty; it's double degradation/corruption, I assume, from the description. Men forsaking God to humiliate and control the women, of course because the female leads are so irresistible or whatever.
No, I doubt they're making stuff up. Remember that 50 Shades of Grey started out as a BDSM Twilight Fanfic, and I really doubt that the genre has gotten any classier since that had its explosive success.
