I think an important quality for anyone in Trump's camp to have is this one. You can't go in thinking it'll be a Press Release with a guy giving you jumping off points like it sorta used to be, you have to treat it like debate club.
Which means you need to be constantly watching for traps and tricks they are setting up and then setting your own back to exploit them. You can't be remembering your own rehearsed speech, you have to be present in the moment and watching for minor little things your "interviewer" is doing.
Its something most of his 2016 administration failed at, because they weren't ready for TDS. Its why so many were able to be led like dogs into betraying him and working against him just by someone outwitting them long enough to make them think it was their own idea.
Vance at least seems to be young enough to have dealt with Millenials long enough to understand this and able to be able to defend against it.
Frankly, Trumps problem with this would have been himself. He can handle these hostile interviews, but not in this way. He'd hit back at them, and focus on his narrative, but he'd still have a good chance of being deflected to some other point, and he wouldn't be able to address the firehose of bullshit being spewed at him. He'd just power through it.
Vance is clever enough to deflect each deflection back to each his narratives.
That's what was pissing off Tapper. He'd bring up Kelly, so JD would show that Trump is anti-war. Tapper smears with "an insult to Kelly's honor", and JD deflects to how The Atlantic is pro-war. Tapper claims that Trump insiders are lining up against Trump, JD deflects to that as evidence of clearing out incompetence; all while JD is pushing Tapper on "get back to the voter's issues".
It's like watching someone doing fencing.
Maybe it was 17 minutes, and Jake just got tired of getting his ass handed back to him after each line.
Exactly. What the fuck good would it even do? There's no point in a speech, you won't get one. This is why Kamala is fucking up so bad. That's all she has, and she can't even handle friendly follow-up questions.
Trump still acts like he can woo the media back onto his side. JD Vance realizes that is never going to happen and the 5th estate is an enemy actively against us.
I wouldn't say Trump thinks he can woo the media, he just doesn't fight them in the way that Vance does.
The problem with Trump in almost every way is that he is very old. Meaning he is set in his ways and is very out of touch with a lot of society's finer details. That's just the problems with old people in general, and you can see a lot of his mistakes come back to being a man from a time long past. Such as trying to run the Government like a business, in an age when billionaire monsters will pay people to fall on swords and make retarded decisions for their ideology.
Its why Vance is such a boon. Regardless of anything, he is someone who has grown up in the Millenial age, he has been versed in the internet age, and probably has dealt with the foot soldiers that were created from these kind of Leftie idiots. He can see a lot of this coming, and is probably one of the sources (besides Baron) that is making him campaign in the way he is.
True. Like a lot of Boomer-Cons, he wants to go back to the Reagan Era with cellphones.
Vance is literally a millennial. Not even Gen X as far as I'm aware. We all want to go back to the 90's, but we've seen so much permanent damage, and come to realize that a) the 90's can't come back, b) the 90's were an exception to how the left normally behaved.
Instead, what's really happened is that the Progressives and Neo-Libs are trying to redo the 1970's in both Mainstream Stagflation and Progressive Terrorism. The Boomer-Cons hope we're getting another Reagan, but the rest of us Millennials, Zoomers, and Alpha know that we're not going to get the 90's and repeat the cycle. We actually have to permanently break something to end it.
The problem is that we're not educated, refined, or experienced enough to cultivate a new world from scratch for the future; we're just trying to stop the Neo-Liberal Order from killing all of us.
Trump interviews are like a bare knuckle brawl while Vance is like a fencer. I like this comparison
