Personally, the last thing I bought from them was ... uhh, blood dragon I think back in may of 2013. It felt like a fun quick little message. "Look, we can make good games, we just don't anymore, so enjoy this last sendoff." And that was that.
I hope that most people will be smart enough to know that it's still Ubisoft, and they spent money to do this, and they intentionally made their brand icon ... a pile of shit.
It wasn't just enough to make the shit, they had to be the shit.
This company will likely be bought out, and they'll try and turn it around, like you said, but I believe you're right, it'll just be a different flavor of propaganda.
