Women can hold a fixed position, and can shoot a rifle/shotgun while doing so, but in a TEOTWAKI situation they are most useful for bearing children, since females are the reproductive bottleneck of homo sapiens.
I will actually push back here and tell you that most women cannot properly operate and reload a .556 or 7.62 rifle and are laughably incapable of shooting anything other than birdshot out of a 12 gauge. I know you can find me some southern queen who can, but I guarantee you she's in the top 1% of women.
Women can be trained to run a carbine, I saw it many times in the over a dozen pistol and rifle classes I have had. There were women in all of them, and none of them were a danger or a hinderance. The key hurdle is to get them to even try, as modern society has trained them to be passive.

They can be trained to use the weapon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_the_Vietnam_War
But they cannot be trained to fight like men and are an overall detriment to the front lines.
Y'all aren't really arguing. "Women" can and "most women" can't. "Men" can operate a mortar. Most men don't know how.
