"Eating cats" is shorthand for "way too many migrants, they're not integrating, and we don't want them here".

The left responding with "nobody is eating cats you idiot" is a disaster in terms of messaging. They think the issue is cats, while they're losing anybody concerned about the masses of illegal aliens.

Trump is an absolute master at this kind of troll politics. He made them go hard on the losing side of the biggest issue people are voting on. 24/7 news and memes all telling independents if they care about the issue then don't vote democrat - and they have no idea they're doing it.
