Dragon Ball ended with the legendary Super Saiyan and Lord Frieza fighting to the death on Namek. Neither warrior nor the planet survived, so fierce was their battle.

When the anime caught up to the manga at the absolute worst possible time, forcing them to stall.

Also, screw this opinion, the Cell and Buu sagas had some great stuff, even if Toriyama was seriously burned out by the latter.
