Halls Of Torment was made by a crew of a half-dozen people over the course of two years, and made almost 5 million dollars. That's a wage of very healthy six figures each. If you were good game devs, you could do the same. Go indie!
A good and fast artist can make mint just selling commissions, and make even more licensing assets.
The fact these people are "losing their livelihoods" is unfortunate, sure, but if they're talented in a booming, rich field like this one, they'll get snapped up real quick.
Of the handful of recent games I currently play ( Deep Rock Galactic, Timberborn, The Last Spell ), all were made by small studios.
There are still good games being made. Outside the woke-captured big studios.
They earned a very nice pay with their work.
